From The Church to The Slaughterhouse...literally. I began this project with a my good friends back in my old hometown in Ontario. One of the guys that plays on the album lives in an old church out in the country that he's made into his home and an epic jam sanctuary. We've been jamming there for years, making music, and having way too much fun. I actually recorded my first EP in the church with these same boys in 2004 called, The Church Sessions. Fast forward 12 years... In the July 2016 I flew down and we spent five days recording tracks. I had written the songs here in Calgary over the previous year and had sent them some demos to listen to. When I got there we kind of had an idea of what we were setting out to do, but we mostly let it happen pretty naturally. Usually we'd run over the song 2-3 times, and then hit record. A couple songs like Dreamers And Believers and Trapped In The Amber were a result of improv and exploration when the drummer was stuck at work late. After the five days we had 10 songs about 75% of the way done.
