Son of Ray is the work of singer-songwriter, Rob Lagace and his various musical collaborations and projects. A rootsy blend of folk, rock, blues, and country. Lagace was a already a hard working performer and songsmith long before emerging as, Son of Ray in the Alberta music scene in 2013. But after recording his first full length album, Keepin' It Real, in 2014 with well known Calgary producer, Lorrie Matheson, things really went into high gear. With 100's of shows across the province as well as in BC and ON, Son of Ray was working full time rocking festivals, bars, pubs, backyards, and even castles and casinos. All these dues paid, along with some big performances at the 2017 JUNOfest, CBC's 2017 Radio One Drive Home Xmas Drive, and a top 10 finish in CBC's 2017 Searchlight contest led to some big opportunities to share the stage with well know artists such as, The Great Lake Swimmers, Coleman Hell, Jon & Roy, Daniel Wesley and more. On stage, Son of Ray is a captivating presence, with a sand paper tenor, passionate delivery, and infectious songs and melodies. Whether a one man band, strumming the guitar, blowing the harp, and pounding the kick drum, or accompanied by any one of the talented musicians that he has at his disposal, Son of Ray is unique voice making real music. Drawing comparisons to Springsteen, Petty, and Dylan and more recent songwriters like Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton, Son of Ray compliments the tradition and tapestry to which he draws his inspiration. Honest lyrics and good grooves. In late 2017, Son of Ray released his sophomore offering, the psychedelic tinged, folk rock banger, Between Dust And A Dream, recorded in an old church. The official video for the first single, Tic Toc, was released in October 2018 to great reviews and has been accepted into some upcoming film and music festivals. The release of his last albums also came at a pivotal time in his life as he became a father for the first time and moved back across the country to his old hometown of Port Colborne, Ontario with his family after being gone for the past 15 years. After taking a little time away from the stage to adjust to family life and his new home, Lagace is ready to re-emerge for the next chapter of Son of Ray. Things have been quietly unfolding with a new album in the works and an old cast of musicians who are bringing new life to older songs and fresh vibes to the new material. Look for Son of Ray to be rocking a stage near you soon. Mike Bell from YYScene nails it when he says of the music "Son of Ray strums like a small town and rocks like the big city".
